This will benefit all students learning development irrespective of whether they decide to continue their education in the IB programme.IB Learner Profile at Elverum vgs10 attributes of studens in the words of our IB community that we aspire to and value: Inquirers An Inquirer asks questions and wonders about nature and the reality of it. For at least 1500 years, people believed the teacings of Aristotle's, until someone asked "why". The nature of the inquirer from a science point of view is such that the questions is more important than the answer. The questions give rise to an investigation, which will provide us with more and/or better understanding of the world around us. Embrace the question, and never stop wondering. Knowledgeable Use and develp our understanding of concepts within and across disciplines. In humanities, students develop their knowledge when considering a range of perspectives on how the history of humanity has evovlved as well as how we attempt to deal with the challenges facing our world today of the world we currently live in whilst engaging in issues of global and local significance. Thinkers Being a Thinker means that one is able to use one's thoughts in a creative way to solve problems, be critical to new information, how issues are solved and which decisions have to be made. For example, being a thinker would include contributing in a constructive way to class discussions, such as giving a new and personal perspective of the interpretation of an author's purpose when writing a novel. Communicators A communicator is someone who is able to express themselves effectively and completely in order to share experiences, knowledge, and joy. Communications is the bridge between individuals and the environment, creating a sense of harmony, unity, and a feeling of belonging. Representing the class, in the student council is an example of this bridge. Principled "Only dead fish go with the flow" was sritten on a wall in the neighbourhood where I grew up. I think this is a beautiful illustration of what it means to be principled. It is easy to go with the flow - it is frictionless and comfortable in the short run. To dare to say “no, I don't agree”, even if you are alone to rise your voice, is not easy. But there are endless examples from history reminding us of what can happen if we choose not to stand up for what we believe is right. Some of the most remarkable persons in history have had this inner sense of justice and integrity, and have acted accordingly. Rosa Parks, Llewelyn “Tommy” Thompson and Dietrich Bonhoeffer are all examples of persons remembered because they dared to challenge ideas they meant were wrong. To be principled means that you respect yourself. Open-minded Being open to perspectives and values outside of their own culture, community, and beliefs. They are willing to seek these new perspectives and values, and afterwards being able to grow as a person from them. While they are also considerate and empathetic to other's perspectives and values even if they disagree with them. For example when starting in either Pre-IB or IB1 at Elverum with other people from other countries or cultures, they choose to listen and want to learn about the other's life and values and thereafter develop as a person. Caring The IB Learner strives for empathy, compassion and respect towards others. In our school community IB students, caring is examplified through involvement in the homework help service and by facilitating divers cultural school activities. Risk-takers We apporach uncertainty with forethought and determintation; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change. This can be exemplified by apporaching different texts from a vast variety of cultures in an open-minded way. Reading often involves identifying with something unknown, and that is a process that facilitates students to step out of t their comfort zone. Working with literature also involves trying out different apporached and evaluating different readings and interpretations. This form of risk-taking can open new ways of looking at the world. Balanced We strive to address physical and well-being needs in addition to meeting academic challenges. We recognize the interependence of people and how we can help each other grow. Core lessons involving CAS activities have focus on involving the whole class in engaging physical activites that are deemed enjoyable and accessible for all. Reflective To be reflective is to examine the knowledge you have gained from others and the world at large and apply it in a meaningful way to your own thoughts and experiences. You watch a documentary about pollution and then think about the ways you contribute to the problem, you then decide to cut down on the amount of plastic waste you produce.
